Asbestos is a natural occurring fibrous mineral commonly known by their colours. These are referred to as White, Blue, Brown and Green Asbestos.

  • White asbestos is Chrysotile, which is made up of curly fibres and made up of crystal sheets.

  • Crocidolite, also known as Blue Asbestos alongside Amosite (Brown Asbestos) are seen as the most valuable commercially.

  • Actinolite is a more versatile type of asbestos that can appear to be both dense and compact as well as brittle and fibrous. You are likely to see this in various colours from Green and Grey to White.

  • It has been mined around the world and used in minerals for its desirable physical properties such as its resistance to fire and water, electrical and chemical damage. Asbestos in Australia was widely used in the building industry on domestic and commercial buildings up until the early 1980’s. It was then banned in Australia from building products in 1989.
